My time on the barge was such a unique experience and is surely one I'll never forget. You'll never again experience anything like it! Living here opens your mind to new ideas, lifestyles, cultures, and experiences.

The beds are huge and comfortable, and the food supply is never-ending. You should never grow hungry here, and you'll find great peace and immense solitude in living on a floating haven in the middle of some of Australia's most gorgeous waters. There are also many fun activities to do off the barge, such as swimming (watch out for all the jellies!), hiking the famous Hillary, grabbing coffee, rock climbing, cliff jumping, taking the dinghy for a spin, visiting the local pub, bush walks, food runs, and more. The work is very manageable, and Sam will often discover your special skills and talents and use them to everyone's benefit!

Best of all, however, are the beautifully unique people you'll meet. Each crew becomes a family very quickly. Sam is such a kindhearted soul and truly just wants everyone to have an amazing time aboard his barge. Thank you to BF1 and the entire crew for all the memories I'll cherish forever!

Sam is a great person who is very passionate about his work. He is appreciative of the people who help him and is genuinely sociable. Life on the barge is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I highly recommend. I had a wonderful time with my fellow workawayers.

It's important to keep in mind that you will be living closely with a small group of people on the boat. A sense of community and open communication are valuable in this setting. This also adds an extra layer of challenge to the workaway experience, which I found enjoyable.

Keep up the good work, Samuel!

We spent an incredible two weeks on the barge with Sam and our amazing crew.

Sam excelled at embracing each person's individual skill set. I (Katie) had the opportunity to use my 3D modeling skills to survey and create a model of the barge for 3D printing and furthering the vision of the barge. We both enjoyed going on bin runs and indulged our love of cooking by creating amazing meals for the crew using ingredients we found in the bins each time.

Sam loved sharing his local knowledge of the area and took us and the rest of the crew on various adventures. These included bush treks where we discovered beautiful, hidden places within the jungle. We also had the chance to engage in outdoor rock climbing, which tested our problem-solving skills and physical fitness. Lastly, who could forget the beautiful boat trip we took for some exhilarating cliff diving?

Our experience on the barge embodied everything a workaway experience should be: meeting awesome people, having new experiences, embracing the unexpected, stepping outside our comfort zones, and learning new things about ourselves. Thank you so much, Sam, for allowing us to be part of your vision!

Sam is amazing! He made us feel very welcome as soon as we arrived. We had a lot of fun together as we were all joyful people gathered in one place. We enjoyed delicious food and took many walks and hikes. It's incredible how much food we found.

Staying in this place is quite an experience. I would definitely recommend coming to meet Sam!

My time on the barge was truly unique. It's hard to imagine what Sam has accomplished there. It’s a space where you can grow and be yourself, with Sam providing the right guidance when needed. He is an incredibly fascinating person with a wealth of knowledge about life.

Even though I was often quiet during group discussions, I thoroughly enjoyed our conversations about diet, meditation, and personal development, as well as the bush walks. Thank you, Sam, for giving me this opportunity!

I spent a week on the barge with Sam during the German season, and it was an incredible experience. Sam is a person who not only puts effort into the project, but also ensures that every workawayer has a great time on the barge. From the moment you arrive, you can tell that a lot of love and effort has gone into making the place feel like a cozy home. I happily spent most of my time painting various areas, but also enjoyed the tranquility of being in such a beautiful and unique location. Communication was always clear, honest, and straightforward, even before I arrived.

Thank you, Sam, for this opportunity, the conversations, and for helping me recover more quickly! I wholeheartedly recommend this place and hope to come back one day.

This entire experience was exactly what I was looking for and needed. Sam is such a special and wholesome soul with a heart of gold. He has created a magical, beautiful, and safe place in the middle of nature where you can meet all kinds of beautiful and vulnerable souls. You can feel the energy on and around the barge.

It was an unforgettable, remarkable, and educational two weeks that I’ve had here—intense and filled with a lot of emotions. But I feel much more connected to nature and its energy. I have deep respect for him, his talents, and his way of life. By welcoming people into his home and helping them heal, he truly makes the world a better place.

He is healing the world.

I can wholeheartedly recommend this workaway experience. I had an amazing and unique time on the barge that will stay in my heart forever. Our community felt like a little family from 12 people to 5 I loved all of it. We enjoyed delicious food, and I tried some new dishes. We embarked on great adventures such as bush hiking, cliff jumping, and rock climbing, all of which I loved. Everyone was able to conquer their fears.

For me, this workaway experience was a perfect fit, allowing me to reconnect with some of my beliefs. Sam was incredibly welcoming and funny, sharing the best stories—both interesting and amusing. He also led us in a ceremony where he shared his beloved medicine, which was a wonderful experience that strengthened our group's connection.

At the end of my stay, it was difficult to leave, but I may return someday. A word of caution: you may gain some weight because of the abundance of delicious food available

Living on the barge for two weeks was an amazing experience! If you're ready to explore a completely different way of life, this is the place to go. Sam is a great person who can teach you a lot. I appreciate his perspective and his lifestyle. Sam is one of the few people who has managed to achieve true freedom. He doesn't need to work a conventional job and lives his dream on the barge. During my stay, I completely lost track of time.

I also enjoyed the bush adventures we went on. It feels wonderful to be out in nature, far from other people and paths. If you have any special skills, Sam will try to incorporate them into your work schedule. I really enjoyed editing a promotional video for him. Overall, I wholeheartedly recommend staying here.

The four weeks I spent on the barge are a time I will never forget. Sam is such a fun and good-hearted person, making the experience of staying and working on the barge truly enjoyable. He goes out of his way to ensure everyone feels comfortable, and the work was always fair. When you're with the right people, even waking up at 4 a.m. for food runs can be fun!

The vibe and energy on the barge were healing and compassionate, unlike anything I have experienced before. Thank you, Sam, for all the adventurous bush walks, cozy movie nights, deep conversations, electric raves, nighttime boat rides, beach trips, and meaningful connections I was able to make in the magical space you created. You and the barge will forever hold a special place in my heart!

I spent two absolutely amazing weeks on the barge. It’s such a special place that I'm so thankful to have experienced. This was my first workaway, and I couldn't have asked for anything better. Sam has truly created a beautiful, playful space with an incredible atmosphere. I enjoyed both the tasks and the company. Being a part of the barge crew was an unforgettable experience!

- Alma 17.5.2023

Thank you, Sam, for the time we spent together! Living on the barge was an interesting and meaningful experience—one I will definitely cherish and remember fondly. For those who aren't used to stepping out of their comfort zones, living on a barge so close to others in the middle of a river and adapting to barge life can present some challenges, but that's part of the fun! Dumpster diving was both surprising and amusing.

I felt a warm atmosphere with the rest of the workawayers, and Sam was a great host—flexible, open to conversation, funny, and insightful. He made sure we were comfortable and entertained, and took us to breathtakingly beautiful places. I got to see stunning animals and plenty of gum trees.

Sam assigned tasks based on each person's comfort level, mostly involving fixing or improving the barge itself. Even with a relaxed work pace, we accomplished a lot, which felt great!

Thanks, Sam!

- Vincente 8.4.2023

The barge is a once-in-a-lifetime experience! The surroundings are stunning, and the workshop looks as though it comes straight from a movie. There are always so many different tasks to handle on the boat, so don't worry—everyone has a skill that can be put to use.

Sam is a very proactive person with many great projects. He is a man of action and enjoys making jokes. It was good to go dumpster diving again after all those years of not doing it.

Warning: You might gain some weight, as there is always an abundance of free food available everywhere. I wish you all the best with your projects. Thank you for the experience!

- Jude 20.2.2024

My experience on the barge was truly unique and unlike any other workaway experience. What made it so special? I had the opportunity to:

  • Embark on once-in-a-lifetime adventures, such as jumping off a 12-meter cliff

  • Steer a boat on my own

  • Spend all day with other young people, enjoying the best lunches and dinners together

  • Explore the bush in areas accessible only by boat

And so much more! Every day was a new adventure! A big thank you to Sam for making dreams come true, for welcoming everyone, and for ensuring everyone had the best and most memorable stay on the barge!

- Theresia 27.1.2024

Sam's place is magical. Our energies matched perfectly. Jonas and I were the only workawayers there at the time, which made for a calming experience. Sam is a funny and thoughtful person; he's open-minded and kind-hearted. We spent a week together, during which we went dumpster diving once—it was a fun and memorable experience.

Living on a boat in such beautiful surroundings is indescribable; it is truly stunning. Thank you, Sam, for this time. I hope we see each other again in the future, perhaps in Ibiza

14 Aug 2023 - Elena & Carmen – 5/5

I stayed on the barge for two weeks and had a wonderful time! Sam has created such a lovely place where everything is well thought out. I had the opportunity to meet amazing people and share many laughs and good times together.

The work was manageable; we cleaned the barge and smaller boats, installed solar panels, and helped with cooking. The highlights were definitely the food runs, adventure hikes, and rock climbing!

Thank you so much, Sam, for having me. I really had a great time!

- Jonas Bastian & Paula 20.9.2023

Sam is a wonderful person who has pursued his dream and built something truly beautiful. The barge reflects his appreciation for deep connections between people and serves as a melting pot where different individuals come together, share experiences, and grow during their stay with Sam and the barge.

I was fortunate to stay for three weeks, during which time the other workawayers, Sam, and I shared a beautiful time and established profound connections. The bushwalks, boat tours, and food runs were highlights of my time there. The work was fair, and everyone was able to do tasks they felt comfortable with. I did a lot of concrete grinding, as the barge needs constant maintenance. Though it was no easy task, it helped me stay in shape.

Overall, I want to thank Sam for creating this beautiful place on earth, and I wish you all the best for the future!

- Florian 22.5.2023

I'm so thankful for the two weeks I spent on Sam's barge. First of all, I have to say I've never had as much fresh fruits and vegetables in such a short period of time in my entire life. Big thanks to the bin goods! I learned so much here, especially that the best-before date often has no meaning, which was an eye-opening experience.

I managed to slow down, learn how to live more in the moment, and connect with nature on a new level. The early trip to the waterfall, the midnight speedboat tour, and the outdoor movie nights were just some of the highlights for me. I did a lot of plant care, which has allowed the plants to thrive and transform the barge into a floating jungle.

Sam has created such a beautiful, sacred space. I will miss the quiet mornings where I could journal and cooking to rave music. I will definitely miss my queen-size bed!

The special barge vibe is incredible, and I'm so thankful I had the opportunity to be part of it

- Jasmin 14.4.2023

Sam is a kind soul who believes in the barge project and values the support of those involved through workaway. I supported the project by taking on kitchen and cleaning tasks, which I enjoyed. Sam listens to you to understand your skills and is always open to meaningful conversations.

I felt at home on the barge and appreciated the exchange of ideas. I can't recommend the experience enough!

We spent two absolutely incredible weeks on the barge with Sam. He has an astonishing amount of energy and invests a lot of it into the entire barge project. We immediately felt like part of the crew, and it was amazing how he shared his life and home with us, making us feel like an important part of the whole experience.

We went on many adventures together, visited stunning places, and heard countless captivating stories. The barge is truly an amazing and special place, and we are so grateful to have experienced its unique spirit!

Thank you so much, Sam, for this incredible time, the stargazing nights, beautiful sunsets, groovy jams, freestyle raps, the endless supply of cheese, and everything else! We will never forget this amazing adventure and hope to meet you again one day!

- Daliah Anita 26.3.2023

My stay here exceeded all my expectations. Sam has truly created something special—a space for people to come and open themselves up while feeling safe. He has cultivated a creative and collaborative environment that fosters connection and community. My time here is unforgettable. From working as a team with other wonderful souls I've come to consider family to the nights spent laughing and creating stories and songs, I feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to visit.

It was a welcome escape from the disconnected world we often find ourselves in today. Sam goes above and beyond to make you feel at home and ensures your experience is a positive one. He takes you on amazing adventures through the bush to breathtaking lookout points. I was truly humbled by the beauty I woke up to every day. Working on creative projects here provides a sense of accomplishment and makes you feel part of something larger than yourself.

If you are considering a stay on the barge, I highly recommend it. You won't regret it—it's an experience unlike any other!

- Kristen 15.2.2023

We had our first workaway experience at Sam's, and we couldn't have asked for anything better! Life on the barge was as unexpected as it was unforgettable. These 10 days were interesting, funny, and full of kindness. The barge is a place full of wonders, and working with Sam was a unique and cool experience.

Living with people from all over the world made us more open-minded, and Sam carefully selects the crew. Everyone has a chance to tap into their creativity and contribute their ideas.

If you are lucky enough to visit the barge yourself, you will have a magical time full of surprises.

Thanks, Sam, for these wonderful memories!

- Louanne & Laurène 13.12.2022

This was definitely one of the most unique Workaway experiences I've had. Sam has created a self-sufficient kingdom on his two barges, and I really admire what he has accomplished. His perspective on life and society is thought-provoking.

Sam is energetic and outgoing, always focused on getting things done. We worked for five hours a day, with tasks that felt relevant to living on the barge. We also had plenty of time to relax and explore the area. Sam took us on cool bush walks and was an exemplary host.

I especially appreciated the other volunteers he attracted to the barge. I made some good friends there, and we even continued traveling together. So thank you, Sam!

This is a great place for extroverted, high-energy people. One thing to consider is that you'll be staying on a barge, which means close quarters. While you will have your own space, privacy can be limited.

- Rass Otsa 10.10.2022

Wow! Our time on the barge with Sam was unlike anything we've ever experienced before—in the best way possible! Sam was warm and welcoming, making our visit to the Hawkesbury River one of the most memorable experiences. We both learned so much during our short stay on the barge, and I am forever grateful for the stories and conversations we shared. I would recommend anyone to visit the amazing home Sam has created in this beautiful location. I look forward to returning someday in the not-too-distant future!

- Aisha 1.8.2022

Hard to put into words how special a place Sam has built, and how moving an experience it was to share it with him. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed, with always something useful to do, something new to see, something fascinating to learn—or something delicious to eat.

It is rare these days to find people so certain of their path and so open and joyful in helping you. You will leave this place more certain of yourself and full of inspiration. The land alone is inspirational, with a beautiful river and wide skies full of stars at night. If you want to reconnect with nature—with the sun and the water, which together make almost everything here possible—this is the place.

I could not ask for a better place to stay or better people to share it with and learn from. Sam has left me with lessons I will carry for the rest of my life. All my love to you, Sam! Thank you for being in my life.

- Sezgi 21.10.2020

Great host, easy to get along with, and had some good chats! The location was lovely.

- Elizabeth & Sam 1.8.2019

Waaaaa, Barge, come in! What a wonderful experience off the grid in the beautiful Hawkesbury River. Sam and his amazing crew, I'm so sorry I couldn't stay longer than my designated week. We went fishing, exploring, and took a late-night boat trip to catch the phosphorescence. We shared stories around a fire and laughed a lot. Thank you for this lush experience; the barge is such an intricately wondrous place. I miss the wind chime and the gentle rocking that helped me sleep every night.

Future barge crew, bring your practical skills and lots of energy to Sam's projects—you won't regret it!

Sam and Linn, thanks for everything!

How can I start? It's hard to find the right words to describe the feelings I had during my time on the barge. I experienced many firsts: living alone on the barge, speaking English for four days, leading a different kind of life, seeing jellyfish with my own eyes, and even trying gin and tonic for the first time. Sam is an awesome person, and his barge is equally amazing.

Sam is patient, energetic, enthusiastic, optimistic, generous, curious, and friendly. I learned so much from him. He seems to know everything, and he is such a brilliant person that I highly recommend making friends with him.

Four days on the barge felt too short, but I will be back in my spare time or anytime Sam needs me. Thank you again, Sam. You lit up my world, and this experience is truly a treasure.

- Dilly 2.1.2019

How do I even start this review!? Sam and Sara are two of the most incredible people I’ve ever met, and I can honestly say that staying with them for two weeks on the barge was one of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had. From the first night, I felt extremely comfortable with them, more like friends than a "workaway" or "host" relationship. They are such genuine, fun, and goofy people, and I loved spending the afternoons cooking with them, fishing, watching Dragon's Den, and just hanging out. The work was not overly difficult and I actually enjoyed it. Living on the barge and being off the grid for a few weeks was such a unique experience. I really can’t say enough good things about Sam and Sara; they are incredible hosts and people, and I would recommend this workaway experience to anyone. I already know that I want to go back and stay with them again during my time in Australia! Sam and Sara, thank you for everything!

- Danielle 21.2.2018

The barge is an amazing place! Expect hard work, but also expect great rewards. That's certainly what I found. Food, bed, and fun were all 10/10. I'd definitely work here again!

- Ronald 9.7.2016

Sailor Sam, you are one of the most creative souls I have ever had the pleasure of meeting! I'm not sure what I can say that hasn't already been said! This was one of the best experiences, not just of my time in Australia, but of my life! I had the most wonderful time on the barge, made amazing friends, learned some carpentry skills, and left feeling more creative than I have in years.

There are so many cool projects happening, and you're always learning something new and interesting. While I was on the barge, it was probably the largest group of people Sam has ever had at once; despite this, he was always patient, kind, and funny.

I'm grateful we got to spend my last night chatting and trading hilarious stories—you have plenty of them! The barge is becoming an incredible community and space; do yourself a favor and go play a part in it!

Sam, I miss you, your energy, the barge, and all the people I met there. Thank you for having such a huge impact on my life!

P.S. This man can beatbox! And you're looking great for 29 too, haha!

- Nancy Anderson 11.3.2016

I left the barge this morning and I am so sad that I had to leave Sam and this beautiful place. He is an amazing person, and his enthusiasm and care for his hosts made me feel comfortable and at home. I couldn't have asked for a better welcome to Australia than arriving here. We had perfect conversations, a lot of fun, made music, and of course worked hard on all your ideas. I felt so peaceful and able to focus on the present and enjoy the time at the barge. After working, we had delicious meals together, and Sam is happy to show you around beautiful spots!

I can't wait to see the place when it is all finished, but I will come back very soon. Oh, and you have to watch him and Opar perform on the streets of Sydney. It's impressive!

- Roxanne 19.12.2015

The first thing: I slept so well in the nice bed with the gentle sway of the barge—it was beautiful! What a special experience it was to see the extra effort it takes to live on the water. I have great respect for how you deal with that every day. It was so nice to be away from all the rush and just surrounded by the stars and the magical water. You have to see it for yourself!

The plan was to be there with three other volunteers, but sadly they didn't turn up, so I had to do a lot of work on my own. Fortunately, the two lovely dogs kept me good company when Sam wasn't around.

Thanks for hosting a friend who came up for my birthday and for taking me to Sydney on the weekends! It was fun to see your show every time—maybe you should add that part with the balloon coming out again! Definitely.

I'm really curious about how the barge will look when every project on your mind is done! Let me have a look then.

I miss your pizza and juice already! Have a great street artist season and... bis später! Frohe Weihnachten!

- Nadina 26.12.2014

This place is a little paradise, and Sam, the host, is a very warm and entertaining street artist. I'm sure you will have a lot of fun with him! His boat is amazing; it feels like being in the wilderness, surrounded by the ocean.

There are plenty of activities to do in the area—climbing, fishing, swimming, camping on the beach, hiking—and enjoying good times around the fire with art. Sam also has some great visions to transform his boat; I think it's going to be awesome!

I really enjoyed spending time on the barge and wish I could have stayed longer, but I will definitely come back! Thank you, Sam!

The barge is a wonderful space of creativity, love, and immersion in nature. Sam was a welcoming guide from the beginning, making me feel comfortable not only as a visitor but also as a friend. The barge is unlike any other living space, situated right on the water with breathtaking views.

We had the privilege of using our own tinny boat for adventures, and Sam often joined us to guide us on bush excursions. We had the freedom to cook together in the kitchen and shared some fantastic meals. The barge offers a unique, spiritual journey and an opportunity for growth that you will never forget.

- Sasha 20.3.2023

It was lovely. Too many words make the soup too salty, and I am not a person of many words. Thanks again, Sam.

Dear Sam, thank you for hosting me and providing this incredible next-level experience! I had an unforgettable time, learned a lot, and can recommend this workaway to anyone looking to try something special and new. Everything is crafted with passion and love, making it feel like home from the very beginning. It's an opportunity to be part of something bigger. Greetings, Johanna

A magical project developed by a magical person. Visiting Sam is the best thing you can do for a different and cool experience. We are super grateful for your hospitality, stories, and time. Thank you for allowing us to develop our creativity on the barge. See you soon!

- Chiara & Jordi 13.10.22

Wow. I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to experience barge life and make an amazing friend along the way. For me, this was a magical experience that opened my mind to new perspectives and ways of life, and even after I continued on my travels, it left me feeling inspired.

Sam is an excellent host and a caring person with a great sense of humor who made this entire experience for me. He is very conscious about balancing work with play, and we had many fun adventures while also taking care of the barges.

Thanks for the awesome time, Sam! Hopefully, I'll be back on the barge soon!

- Finn 21.5.2022

I’ve been on the road for a while and have learned to take advantage of those unique opportunities that cross my path. Live on a WWII ammo barge to help a street performer who travels the world with a giant robot? Sign me up! First thoughts: I was intrigued by the idea of living off the grid on a barge, and the photos definitely sealed the deal (especially the kitchen and bedroom). I must admit, however, that I didn’t imagine they could possibly reflect the real state of things on a floating war relic. Let me assure you, these areas looked the same or better than the photos when we arrived.

Sam is an extremely caring guy, and the crew’s comfort and happiness rank quite high in his priorities. There is notable time spent on the appearance of the living areas of the barge. Sam has a unique and successful approach of laying out a light framework of how life will be during the stay and allowing the crew to naturally develop the routines and schedules. It works well, and as the place begins to feel more like a home, you find yourself doing little extra things throughout the day to help out more.

Tasks vary—many are upkeep or maintenance on the barge or in the workshop. Maybe Sam needs help with one of his projects, or you bring a skill to the table that he could use somewhere. It is advisable to read through the document that is sent before committing to a stay. He is straightforward about the hours involved (five 5-hour days/week were the norm, although I never felt like it was too much) and doesn’t sugarcoat the less luxurious parts of living on a boat (someone does eventually have to empty toilets on land). I am thankful for my experience and look forward to visiting Sam and Bargeforce One when I pass through Sydney again in the future.

Sam's place is truly unique, and the barge has a distinctive style. Helping him with his projects was very interesting. I assisted in moving solar panels and took part in cleaning and painting, learning something new about his energy system and water supplies. We enjoyed great conversations over delicious meals, and even though I couldn't stay long, we managed to have a day off to walk through the bush, follow the river, and discover waterholes. It was a beautiful adventure! Thank you, and good luck with all your incredible projects!

- Fede Sea 29.4.2019

What an amazing place! The barges are situated on the Hawkesbury River, surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty and plenty of opportunities for small adventures once the work is done.

The atmosphere on the barges is friendly and open-minded, offering both freedom and a sense of belonging to a team working towards a greater purpose.

Sam is a wonderful host, very welcoming and creative with extensive knowledge. He also has many good stories to share during late nights at the campfire!

- Harald 17.2.2019

Sam and Sarah are amazing people! They greeted me and Georgia (another workawayer) with warm hugs and made us feel right at home on the barge. The beds are incredibly comfortable, and I found it hard to sleep elsewhere after leaving because I missed the gentle rocking of the barge that lulled me to sleep.

During the day, we helped Sam with various tasks on both barges, such as carrying things (my favorite task), scrubbing the deck, and cleaning the speedboat. The work could get a bit dirty, but it was fulfilling and worthwhile. I will miss the delicious food. It's incredible what you can cook on a barge! Every night, dinner exceeded my expectations, and Sarah introduced me to homemade tortillas, which I plan to make soon!

The barge feels cozy and welcoming, thanks to the thoughtful decorations and the warm personalities of Sam and Sarah. I'll never forget the night we watched YouTube clips of Sarah's favorite folk parody performers—it became an ongoing joke throughout our stay. They also host fantastic outdoor movie nights (just be sure to prepare your movie suggestions ahead of time, as setting up is easy, but choosing a movie can be tough!).

All in all, I miss the barge dearly and highly recommend it to anyone who is a work-hard-play-hard type of person looking to make great friends and unforgettable memories.

- Maggie 4.3.2018

This was my first workaway experience, and I wouldn't want it any other way! I stayed with Sam and Sara for three weeks in November and June, and immediately felt welcome and part of the crew. The barge itself is an unbelievable work of art and very comfortable to live in, and the people I met there were even better! The work was pretty hard, but fair. It was rewarding to know I contributed to such an amazing place! In the evenings, we cooked and ate dinner together and basically just enjoyed each other's company and the serenity of the Hawkesbury River. Thank you, Sam and Sara, for an amazing first solo travel experience! I miss you guys and my abuelas! I would definitely recommend staying here to anyone who is looking for a completely unique experience.

- Julianne 8.5.2017

I had a great time on the barge! It was clear that a lot of hard work had been done by previous workawayers! Although there weren't any other travelers there at the time, Sam and Sarah made me feel very welcome. They are both incredibly hard working and took the time to share their street performing stories with me!

While the weather limited outdoor work, I primarily focused on cooking and cleaning. However, I also enjoyed using the angle grinder and helping out with other tasks like painting!

The Hawkesbury River is absolutely stunning as well! Cheers, guys! I can't wait to see the deck finished!

Thanks for having me! - Ellie

It has been only one day since I left, and I already miss Sam and the barge! This was one of the best experiences of my life. Not only could I be a part of one of the greatest projects I have ever seen, but I could also help alongside the loveliest crew and make some great friends.

Sam, words cannot describe how wonderful my time at your place was. You are a fantastic person—always fun and welcoming, making your workawayers feel like they have a home at your place.

As for the barge, it is an amazing space full of art, inspiration, comfort, love, and joy. I can't wait to come back and see how it evolves. The Hawkesbury River and its surroundings offer an incredibly beautiful natural setting, perfect for adventures or simply enjoying lovely hours in the sun.

Thank you again for this wonderful time. It will always hold a special place in my heart.

I stayed on the barge with Sam and the crew for two weeks, and I wish I could have stayed longer. It was an absolute blast to experience such a unique workaway opportunity. Don't be afraid to get your hands dirty (or covered in paint)—the effort is certainly worth the payout.

This is a little haven where you can unwind and reconnect with others and yourself. Sam, you're creating an amazing space. Thank you for letting me be a part of it!

An incredible experience in a wonderful place! Hawkesbury River's estuary is magical, and staying on Sam's barge is definitely the best way to enjoy and discover it.

Sam is enthusiastic and active, always carrying on different projects, so there is a lot of work to do. But trust me, it's 100% worth it. I will definitely go back! Keep up the good work, Sam!

Sam, Sam, Sam... my only regret about staying with you is that it eventually came to an end.

For anyone considering staying with Sam, my advice is simple: do it. He's a wonderful host who takes great care of his guests, always offering engaging projects to work on and maintaining a perfect balance between spending time together and allowing space for personal time.

The barge may be a work in progress, but it was so comfortable to live in, and it felt just like any home on land—only with the gorgeous water and hills surrounding you.

Do yourself a favour: stay with Sam, share some laughs, learn new skills, and contribute to the creation of a super-cool home for Sam and everyone he welcomes (including you!)

Sam is a very nice host, fun and easygoing. Living on the barge for a week was a great experience in this beautiful setting. He's not only a good cook, but also a skilled fisherman—definitely better than me! This floating house is spacious, and Sam has many exciting projects planned for it!

I had a great time at the barge and consider it a privilege to have stayed there. The surrounding area is absolutely stunning—the views, small beaches, caves in the cliffs, and beautiful Dangar Island.

I helped a French couple with getting a water-taxi back on the water. Sam was always ready to lend a hand with anything, as life on a barge is quite different from life in a house. After work, and sometimes before, he would take us out fishing or to the island.

Overall, it was a really good experience living in a floating home where everyday tasks are different, like going for a water run or keeping an eye out for the wind so things on deck don’t end up in the water.

PS: Lots of interesting characters around.

PPS: The food was great too!

Dear Sam,

I'm so grateful to have met you. You, as a person, and everything around you—the barge, the river, the trees, and all the animals within it—are truly special. Your words, "Nature creates everything as it should be," resonate deeply with me. I believe everything is as it was meant to be.

Your place is a sanctuary of freedom. Chefs Sasha and Manou improved their culinary skills day by day, creating delicious meals. I enjoyed finding food at sunrise and sharing conversations around the table. Those moments brought me so much laughter and joy.

Going on trips with the tinny boat was fantastic. We embarked on adventures during our free time, exploring magical places. The experience was truly awe-inspiring.

The work never felt like work. I learned a lot about my work ethic and problem-solving skills. Painting wood felt almost like my life’s purpose. I put my all into the projects, and there were always new tasks to tackle. I loved making the place feel like home with flowers and adding cozy touches with fairy lights. Sleeping to the sound of waves, beneath a sky full of stars, and dreaming of wonderful memories—these moments were magical.

I loved my time with you, Sam. Waking up with the sunrise and resting with the sunset was a blessing. I'm so thankful to have been there, meeting you and Sasha. My time at the barge opened my mind to what life can offer. I will definitely return with more stories and laughter. I hope there are many more Sashas and Manous out there! Goodbye for now—I'll see you again!

I spent 13 days on the barge with Sam and the other binkings, and the time passed by in a blink of an eye. If I could, I would have stayed longer. It is truly a highlight of my travels, and I am so glad that I stumbled upon Sam's post. If you are looking for a good time or a place to make friends away from your phone, surrounded by nature, this is the place to be! Sam, stay exactly as you are, and hopefully our paths will meet again!

We loved being on the barge! It was a truly cool experience, and we both learned a lot. Sam is a very kind and funny person who became a good friend during our two weeks there. We enjoyed every moment of it.

Our experience on the barge was exceptional. Sam is an incredible host who lives his life in an extraordinary way. It was a pleasure to get to know him and share ideas. We enjoyed the hikes, conversations, and boat rides. We highly recommend staying with him, and we will definitely return!

First workaway complete! If all assignments are anywhere near as good as this one, sign me up! Sam was the perfect host, and the location speaks for itself. Sam was great at communicating and assigning projects that suited each person's skills, making the work experience varied and enjoyable. The accommodation was super comfortable, and I stayed warm even in June. It was truly the perfect workaway. If you need a sign to go for it—this is it

This was a unique experience, and that was before the storm ripped through! Sam was such a kind-hearted guy, always making sure we were happy and comfortable, even in challenging situations. Our final send-off under the stars was magical—thanks for having us, Sam!

The place, the life, the barge, and especially Sam were all beautiful! I was fortunate to spend my first week (out of four) alone with Sam, which allowed me to get to know him more deeply than if there had been seven other people there at the same time. The other volunteers arrived after the second week, and it was fascinating to observe how the social dynamic evolved during my time on the barge. I took the tinny (a small boat you will know) to Danger Island for a morning run before work or sometimes Sam would take us on adventures and we'd work in the afternoon. I learned new skills, like how to drive a boat and eventually felt very skilled. Sam was easygoing, listened to me, and respected my needs, which I'm very grateful for. I will probably return to the barge because it was amazing, and I made a new friend. All the best, and it was beautiful to meet the other volunteers.

Our week with Sam was incredible! The tasks he had us perform were well-suited to our abilities, and he provided clear explanations so we always knew what needed to be done. Beyond work, Sam made sure our week was excellent by showing us different scenic spots along the river, creating beautiful and exciting memories. The week went by so smoothly that we wished we had set more time aside to stay longer. Sam's effort in creating a family-like community on the barge made the transition easy and the atmosphere calm yet full of fun and adventure. Definitely worth visiting, and we will be returning as soon as possible!

Being with Sam and Sarah was an amazing experience! I highly recommend them and would definitely stay with them again. My friend and I spent a week on the barge and truly enjoyed every moment of it. Thank you for allowing us to be part of your wonderful project! We hope to see you again soon!

So happy I got to spend time on the barge with Sam, Sara, and Stefan!

It was wonderful to see the place in person in its beautiful location. Sam and Sara have made it truly homey and welcoming, down to the curtains around the comfy beds. On the very first night I arrived, we enjoyed fresh fish that Stefan and Sara caught in the river—yum!

During the week I stayed there, I built solar panels for the workshop barge and assembled a multi-tire contraption to bring the two barges together. The work was physically challenging but incredibly satisfying to complete. It was also a great learning experience to drive the little tin boat from barge to barge and into the marina. Thanks, guys! I'll see you abroad someday soon!

Sam's Barge is an amazing place! He and Sarah welcomed us warmly into their unique and beautiful space, making us feel at home from the very beginning. Thanks to them, we discovered how fun yet challenging living in a floating house can be. It's incredible how they have transformed the barge into such a welcoming and comfortable haven, with so many creative ideas to build a true paradise!

Though the work can be tough at times, it's exciting to be a part of the project and enjoy the beautiful landscape surrounding the barge. And, if you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of dolphins swimming around the area—one of the most magical experiences we've ever had! Thank you both so much for the wonderful stay and good luck with your future endeavors!

Highly recommend a stay with Sam for anyone in the Sydney area. He is living the dream, building a home and workshop across two boats moored in the most beautiful setting. There are a variety of jobs to work on, and Sam makes everything fun and energetic. I met the most amazing group of people during my week there and wish I could have stayed much longer!

- Emily 29.2.2016

Absolutely awesome. I will never forget my time on the barge. Learned a great deal, met wonderful people, and treasured every moment of it. One of the most memorable times of my life. Amazing!

- Joseph 27.2.2016

One of the best experiences ever! You'll stay in an incredible location and live the dream with Sam. What a gorgeous human being! It's definitely the place to be. Thanks, man; you filled our hearts with joy.

Wow, what an awesome experience! The barge and river are incredible, and it is a magical place to rest your head. Sam is crazy, but in the best way possible—he has loads of ideas and is working on many projects, so expect to get your hands dirty. There are so many things I could write about the barge, but the main themes in his reviews are true: you will work hard, enjoy wonderful meals with new friends, take in picturesque landscapes, get dirty, and have the time of your life. It was a privilege to experience a new way of life. Thank you, Sam!

- Savannah 13.12.2015

This place is the most beautiful I've seen so far. Waterfalls, beaches, and islands create the perfect environment for feeling good.

We had a lot of work to do during my stay, like cooking, cleaning, and painting, but it was all totally worth it. Sam is a really nice person who truly enjoys life and is an amazing artist.

Thank you for everything—I really enjoyed my time with you all!

- Louise 30.11.2015

Being on Sam's barge was my very first Workaway experience, and it made me want to do more Workaway experiences during my travels. The barge itself is a magical floating home with so much character that I fell in love with it immediately. Sometimes, I find myself lying in hostel beds and reminiscing about my super comfy bed on the gently rocking barge.

And then there's Sam... His enthusiasm for Workaway is incredible! I felt welcomed and at home at all times. We had fun boat rides, went fishing, ran on Dangar Island, and had lots and lots of the best homemade ice cream in the world. We watched movies, cleaned, and reorganised some parts of the barge, but there's still so much to do because Sam has all these creative ideas in his artist's mind.

It quickly became clear to me that I had made a great new friend, and I will definitely return to the barge if I can!
